Trump is set to impose a "global tariff" of 15 to 20% on most countries.

US President Trump said that most of the trading partners who have not conducted separate negotiations with the United States are about to face tariffs of 15% to 20% on their exports to the US, which is much higher than the 10% benchmark tariff he implemented in April.

Reuters reported that Trump told reporters on Monday (July 28) while sitting side by side with British Prime Minister Stemer at his luxury golf resort in Turnberry, Grant, that about 200 countries would soon receive new "global tariff" rates.

Trump said, "It's probably between 15% and 20%, perhaps one of these two figures."

Trump once vowed to impose tariffs on almost all of the United States' trading partners to end the country's decades-long trade deficit. He has recently announced that starting from August 1st, higher tariffs will be imposed on some countries, with Brazil being subject to a tariff rate as high as 50%.

Trump's announcement has led many countries such as India, Pakistan, Canada and Thailand to strive for trade negotiations with the United States, seeking the US to lower tariffs.

With only a few days left until the high tariffs imposed by the United States take effect, the European Union, after months of negotiations, finally reached a huge trade agreement with Trump on July 27. Under the US-EU agreement, the US will impose a 15% tariff on most EU goods, including automobiles, pharmaceuticals and semiconductors, which is lower than the previously announced 30%. The European Union has agreed to purchase $750 billion worth of energy from the United States over the next three years and make an additional investment of $600 billion.

Last week, Trump announced a $550 billion deal with Japan. Previously, the United Kingdom, Indonesia and Vietnam also reached smaller agreements with the United States.

Negotiations between the United States and other countries, including India, are still ongoing, but the deadline set by Trump is Thursday. The chances of countries reaching an agreement with the United States before the high tariffs take effect on Friday are slim.

Trump has repeatedly stated that he prefers to impose tariffs directly rather than engage in complex negotiations.

On Monday, Trump said again: "We will set a tariff rate for the rest of the world." If they want to do business with the United States, they must pay this fee. Because you can't sit down and negotiate 200 agreements one by one.
