Mexican President Simbaum condemned the violence that broke out during the protest against the immigrant raid in Los Angeles on Monday (June 9) and called on the United States to respect the rights of immigrants.

Agence France-Presse reported that Simbaum said at a news conference in the morning: "We do not approve of violent actions as a form of protest." She urged Mexicans living in the United States to "act peacefully and not yield to provocation".

Meanwhile, Simbaum urged the US authorities to ensure that all immigration procedures "respect human dignity and the rule of law".

The Mexican government will continue to use all available diplomatic and legal channels to express its dissatisfaction with criminalizing immigrants and endangering the safety and well-being of our communities in the United States.

Simbaum said that Mexicans living in Los Angeles are "honest and hardworking men and women", adding: "The American economy needs them."
