The BBC reported on Monday (September 15th) that luxury brands Gucci, Balenciaga, and Kering, the French parent company of Alexander McQueen, were hacked. It is possible that the information of millions of customers has been stolen.
Kering Group confirmed in a statement that a hacking incident occurred, but did not mention which brands were affected. The statement said that in June, the group discovered that "unauthorized third parties temporarily accessed our system and obtained limited customer data of some of our brands."
Since the beginning of this year, several luxury brands and retailers have suffered similar attacks. The BBC reported that the stolen information included the customer's name, email address, phone number, address, and the total amount spent in the relevant brand store.
The report quoted hackers who called themselves "Shiny Hunters" as saying that they had data related to 7.4 million email addresses.
Kering Group said that no financial information such as credit cards or bank accounts was stolen. After discovering that its brand had been attacked by hackers, it immediately informed the relevant authorities and customers in accordance with local regulations. When asked which countries were affected by the hacking attack, the group did not respond.
