The foreign ministers of Iraq, Syria and Iran will meet on Friday to discuss the situation in Syria.
Iraq's foreign minister Hussein is due to meet his Syrian counterpart in the capital Baghdad amid renewed fighting in the Syrian civil war, Reuters reported. After seizing the major northern city of Aleppo from Iranian-backed Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, Syrian rebels captured the city of Hama on Thursday.
Iraq's state news agency (INA) said Syrian Foreign Minister Faisal Mekdad arrived in Baghdad on Thursday and Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Araghchi would arrive on Friday.
Iraqi and Syrian sources say some Iraqi fighters entered Syria earlier this week to support the Assad regime. The Iran-allied Iraqi Popular Mobilisation has mobilised along the Syrian border in what it says is an effort to prevent the conflict from spilling over into Iraq.
