The French presidential palace announced on Wednesday that President Emmanuel Macron will appoint a new prime minister within the next 48 hours. The presidential palace also pointed out that at a time when France is facing its most severe crisis in decades, the majority of parliamentarians oppose holding early parliamentary elections.
On October 6th, Sebastien Lecornu, who had been in office for only 27 days and had formed a cabinet for less than 24 hours, was approved to resign from Macron. This made Lecornu the French prime minister with the shortest tenure since 1958.
But at Macron's request, Le Corni still endeavored to conduct "final negotiations" with the various parties in the parliament in the two days after his resignation. The French presidential palace quoted Le Corny as saying: "The majority of parliamentarians oppose the dissolution of the parliament. The foundation for political stability still exists, and it is still possible to pass the budget before December 31."
The French Presidential Palace stated in a statement: "In light of this, President Macron will appoint a new French prime minister within 48 hours."
When interviewed by the media on Wednesday night, Le Corni refused to answer whether the new prime minister was from the left-wing camp or whether he was a technocrat with an independent background.
