South Korea's Senior Public Officials Crime Investigation Agency sent an official document to the police on Monday requesting the arrest of President Yoon Seok-yuol.
Yonhap news Agency reported that the National investigation headquarters of the South Korean police Agency said that the public relations office sent an official document to entrust the police to execute the arrest warrant of Yoon Seok-yue, and the police are conducting legal research on this. The Office is expected to apply to the court on the same day to extend the validity of the arrest warrant.
The arrest warrant issued by the South Korean court on December 31 expired at midnight on January 6.
According to South Korean legal news, the Constitutional Court will hold a meeting of judges on the same day to step up preparations for the formal trial of President Yoon Seok-yuol's impeachment case.
On January 3, a joint martial law investigation team consisting of the Public Prosecution Office and the National Police Agency jointly arrested Yoon, but failed to do so due to obstruction by the presidential Security Office. The main body of the detention is the Public Prosecution Office, but the police, who form a joint investigation team with the Public Prosecution Office, sent detectives to provide assistance.
Mr. Yin's sudden declaration of martial law on Dec. 3, which was hastily rescinded, has led to political chaos across the country. South Korea's National Assembly passed the impeachment motion against Yoon on December 14. The case is now set for a 180-day trial.
