Bloomberg reported that on Thursday (June 4th) evening, Putin met with the heads of major international news agencies in St. Petersburg and said: "When the EU or individual EU member states provide direct assistance to a country that is in armed conflict with us, how can they act as mediators? Mediation means neutrality."

According to an informed source, the three major European economies - Germany, France and the United Kingdom - have been discussing the possibility of facilitating negotiations between Russia and Ukraine to end the war. The source said that officials from these three countries have already discussed this matter with Ukraine.

Putin said that Russia is willing to make compromises on the Ukraine issue, but it needs to convince the Ukrainian side of this.

He said that Russia does not oppose Ukraine's accession to the EU, but it opposes the EU becoming a military alliance. The EU can play a positive role in resolving the Ukraine issue, but what they should do is to persuade Ukraine to accept a compromise solution instead of providing weapons to Ukraine.

Putin said that Russia hopes to sign the document with the "legitimate representatives" of Ukraine. The agreement reached between Russia and Ukraine will be a historically significant document. He also stated that the holding of the presidential election in Ukraine is of great importance.
