North Korea has released the final results of an investigation that identified the South Korean military as the "main body and perpetrator" of the drone attack in Pyongyang, which was intended to drop anti-North Korean political leaflets.
North Korea's Defense Ministry spokesman said Sunday that a joint investigation team consisting of the Ministry of Defense and the Ministry of National Security removed the flight control module from the wreckage of the drone and conducted a comprehensive analysis of the drone's flight plan and flight history records, KCNA reported Monday.
The report cited specific investigation results as saying that the drone took off from Baengnyeong Island at 11:25:30 p.m. on October 8, flew to waters around Namchoa Island via Jangyeon County and Gyangyeon Island in South Hwanghae Province, changed course, and penetrated into the skies over the North Korean capital Pyongyang via Chollima district in Nampo City.
The drones dropped political leaflets over the area between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Seunguri Subway Station at 1:32:8 a.m. and the Ministry of National Defense at 1:35.11 a.m. on Oct. 9, respectively.
A spokesman for North Korea's Defense Ministry said the evidence determined by the investigation clearly proves that the purpose of the drone incursion was to drop anti-North Korean political leaflets.
The spokesman warned that the DPRK would "take merciless" action if the South commits another violation of its sovereignty.
