Trump has officially informed Congress of resuming the war against Iran

US President Trump has submitted a formal notice to Congress, stating that the war against Iran has been resumed on July 7th.

Reuters saw this letter signed by Trump on July 10th on Monday. In the letter, Trump said: "I ordered this military operation because it is my duty to protect the American people, safeguard the security of the United States and the interests of its foreign policy."

The Trump administration believes that this letter has opened up a new 60-day window period, allowing the Trump administration to take military action against Iran without the approval of Congress.

The letter outlined Trump's actions, including his order to implement a two-week ceasefire (which was later extended) on April 7th, as well as the efforts made by the US government to seek a diplomatic solution to the US-Iran conflict.

The New York Times, which received this letter on the same day, stated that this letter once again intensified the dispute between the US Congress and the White House. Although both the House and Senate of the Congress had previously voted to ask Trump to end the war or seek approval before continuing his actions, the White House insisted that as the commander-in-chief of the armed forces, Trump was acting within the scope of his constitutional powers.

On February 28th, the United States, together with Israel, began to launch a military strike against Iran.

The US Constitution stipulates that only Congress has the authority to declare war. However, for a long time, successive US presidents have claimed that, in order to safeguard the security of the United States, they have the right to order short-term military operations without the approval of Congress.
