After the United States launched a new round of air strikes against Iran, Iran accused the United States of repeatedly violating the memorandum of understanding reached between the two sides, and warned that it would take "decisive" actions.
AFP reported that the Iranian Foreign Ministry issued a statement on the Telegram platform of the Iranian National Broadcasting Television Network (IRIB News), saying: "Iran has issued a stern warning about the possible consequences of the US's breach of contract and will take decisive measures to safeguard its own interests and national security."
According to IRIB, there were six explosions on the Qeshm Island in Iran, seven explosions in the city of Sirik, and also explosions occurred in the main port city of Bandar Abbas.
The US Central Command issued a statement on the X platform on Tuesday (July 7), saying that the US military has begun a series of powerful strikes against Iran. These strikes are in response to Iran's attack on three merchant ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz.
The statement said: "The aggressive actions displayed by Iran are completely unjustified, dangerous, and blatantly violate the ceasefire agreement."
On the same day, the United States reimposed sanctions on Iranian oil. After the news was announced, oil prices rose by more than 5%.
On June 21st, the US Treasury Department issued a 60-day temporary license, allowing Iran to sell oil until August 21st. The latest decision by the US has pushed the expiration date of this temporary license forward to July 17th.
The UK Maritime Trade Operations Office (UKMTO) announced earlier on the 7th that an oil tanker was hit by an unknown projectile and caught fire off the coast of Oman. This is the third incident of a ship being attacked reported by UKMTO within 24 hours.
