The survey data released by the US Department of Labor shows that the US added 57,000 non-farm jobs in June, significantly lower than market expectations and the lowest level in the past four months.
The data released on Thursday (July 2nd) also showed that the number of new non-farm jobs added in April was revised down from 179,000 to 148,000, and in May from 172,000 to 129,000. After the revisions, the total number of new non-farm jobs added in April and May decreased by 74,000 compared to the previously announced data.
According to Xinhua News Agency, by industry, in June the professional and business services sector in the United States added 36,000 jobs, while the leisure, hospitality and accommodation sector lost 61,000 jobs.
Several research institutions believe that the leisure and hospitality sector in the United States added a significant number of new jobs in April and May, possibly driven by seasonal factors and short-term events such as the World Cup. However, the supporting effects have begun to wane.
