Germany is providing funds to purchase 50,000 attack drones for Ukraine. The contract is valued at approximately 90 million euros and is one of the largest known drone procurement projects from Western governments for Ukraine to date.
According to a report by Reuters, sources familiar with the matter disclosed that these orders involved Shrike first-person view (FPV) drones produced by SkyFall, a major Ukrainian drone manufacturer, and were equipped with software from the US defense technology company Auterion. These drones can autonomously track and attack moving targets during the final stage of flight.
Auterion's CEO Meyer confirmed the contract size and stated that some of the drones have already been delivered to the Ukrainian government, with the rest to be delivered within this year. SkyFall also confirmed Germany's involvement in this procurement, but refused to disclose the details.
Both the German and Ukrainian defense ministries declined to comment on the grounds of operational security.
The Shrike unmanned aircraft has a relatively low cost and was deployed on the battlefield in Ukraine since 2023.
