The newly-built destroyer in North Korea that suffered a "major accident" was "fully restored to its balance" and safely launched in early June.
The Korean Central News Agency reported on Friday (June 6) that the destroyer was "safely launched and moored at the dock" in the afternoon of Thursday (June 5). The on-site repair promotion team reported the situation of the destroyer repair work to the Central Military Commission of the Workers' Party of Korea on the same day.
It is reported that after the expert group re-examined the overall condition of the hull, the destroyer will enter the next stage of repair work. The next stage of fine-tuning and repair work will be carried out in the dry dock of Luojin Shipyard and is expected to take seven to ten days.
It was reported that Cho Chun-yong, the secretary of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea who is in charge of commanding the on-site repair promotion team, said that the ship repair work will be completed before the 12th Plenary Session of the 8th Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea is held.
The Korean Central News Agency previously reported that a "major accident" occurred during the launching ceremony of North Korea's newly built 5,000-ton destroyer at Cheongjin Shipyard on May 21.
