South Korean President Lee Jae-myeong: The dialogue channels between South and North Korea will be restored as soon as possible

South Korean President Lee Jae-myung said that in order to ease military tensions and create a peaceful atmosphere, the government will restore dialogue channels between the two Koreas as soon as possible and resume dialogue and cooperation between the two Koreas.

Yonhap News Agency reported that Lee Jae will publish an article on social media next Sunday (June 15th) on the 25th anniversary of the issuance of the "June 15th Inter-Korean Joint Declaration".

When reviewing the historical background, Lee Jae-myung pointed out that the "June 15th Inter-Korean Joint Declaration" was the starting point to break the long-term confrontation and distrust and usher in an era of reconciliation and cooperation, injecting peaceful forces into the Korean Peninsula and demonstrating the possibility of common prosperity between the two Koreas.

He said that in recent years, the situation on the Korean Peninsula has regressed to the Cold War era. Dialogue and exchanges between South and North Korea have been completely interrupted, and tensions and unease in the border areas have continued to intensify, which is deeply worrying.

Li Zeming emphasized that history tells us that once peace is shaken, it is not only the economy and security that will be threatened, but also the daily lives of the people. He called on the people to remember the peace commitment made 25 years ago, regain the lost time and peace, transform the "Korean Peninsula risk" into the "Korean Peninsula premium", and jointly create a win-win future for both South and North Korea.

Lee Jae-myeong promised that the new government would stop senseless hostile acts and resume dialogue and cooperation between South and North Korea.

The June 15th Joint Declaration was a statement jointly issued by then South Korean President Kim Dae-jung and then North Korean Defense Commission Chairman Kim Jong-il after their talks on June 15, 2000.
