India announced that it had carried out "precision strikes" on "terrorist camps" within Pakistan and in the Pakistani-administered Kashmir region. Pakistan's Defense Minister Asif said that the Pakistani military shot down two Indian Air Force fighter jets and an Indian drone.

According to reports from Reuters and Agence France-Presse, India issued a statement on Wednesday (May 7th) saying that the Indian armed forces launched "Operation Sindoor" and struck nine terrorist infrastructures in Pakistan and the Pakistani-controlled Jammu and Kashmir region. These facilities were the command points of terrorist attack plans against India.

The statement said that the attack was not targeted at any military facilities in Pakistan. CNN News of India -18 said that the attack killed 12 "terrorists" and injured 55 people.

The Ministry of Defence of India posted a video on social media platform X, saying, "Justice has been served," and "Our actions have been concentrated, restrained, and will not lead to an escalation of the situation."

Pakistan's Defense Minister Asif told Reuters that two Indian Air Force fighter jets and an Indian drone shot it down. According to Xinhua News Agency, Chaudhry, the director of the Inter-Services Information Service of Pakistan, said that India launched missiles at three locations in mainland Pakistan and the Pakistani-controlled Kashmir region early Wednesday morning.

He said that Indian missiles had respectively attacked the Bahawalpur area in Punjab Province in eastern Pakistan, Muzaffarabad, the capital of Pakistani-administered Kashmir, and the Gordli area.

Asif confirmed that at least five locations were attacked, resulting in the deaths of at least three civilians, including a child. Another 12 people were injured.

Pakistani military spokesman Chaudhry said, "We will retaliate at the time of our choice," and described the attack as a "heinous provocation."

Last month, an attack targeting Hindu tourists occurred in the Kashmir region of India, resulting in 26 deaths. India previously vowed to retaliate against the attack in Kashmir.

Both India and Pakistan are countries possessing nuclear weapons.
