Indonesia said that China has indicated its willingness to increase imports from Indonesia. This news may offer Indonesia more leeway as it seeks to avoid higher tariffs imposed by the United States on it.
Indonesian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Sumirat said at a press conference in the capital Jakarta on Thursday (April 24) that trade was a key topic discussed by the Indonesian Foreign Minister and Defense minister when they met with Chinese counterpart officials in Beijing this week.
Bloomberg quoted Sumirat as saying: "China has shown a strong willingness to open up its market and accept Indonesian products, especially in the fishing and durian sectors..." This indicates that China is willing to cooperate and explore new opportunities, and relevant work must be followed up.
During the talks held in Beijing, China and Indonesia announced plans to hold joint military exercises this year and further deepen cooperation in the defense field.
