South Korean President Yoon Seok-yuet involved in the civil unrest case, is scheduled to officially start the trial on April 14.
Yonhap News Agency reported that the Seoul Central District Court Criminal Panel 25 held a second pre-court meeting on Monday (March 24) on the case of Yin Xiyue suspected of leading the civil unrest, and decided that the case is scheduled to officially start the trial on April 14.
Ms. Yin attended the first precourt meeting in the case in late February, but did not attend this time. The court also accepted the prosecution s request that Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Strategy and Finance Choi Sang-mok and Minister of Foreign Affairs Cho Tae-yeol testify. It is understood that the prosecution invited a total of 38 people to appear as witnesses.
According to the indictment, Mr. Choi and Mr. Cho expressed their concerns at the president's office before Mr. Yoon declared martial law on Dec. 3.
Yin Xiyue completely denied the allegations at the second pre-court meeting. Yin Fang argued that the Senior Public Officials Crime Investigation Department (Public Mediation Office) has no right to investigate the crime of civil unrest, investigating related cases is illegal, and the prosecution did not explicitly accuse the criminal facts in the indictment.
The prosecution countered that the detention order and arrest warrant issued by the court proved that there was no problem in the investigation of civil unrest cases by the public mediation Office, and the indictment stated the facts of the crime.
Mr. Yoon was impeached after declaring martial law, and his presidency was suspended, with Prime Minister Han Duck-soo taking over as president. Han Duck-soo was also impeached and suspended by Parliament in late December, but the Constitutional Court rejected his impeachment earlier Monday, and he was immediately reinstated as prime minister while assuming the duties of acting president.
The Constitutional Court has yet to announce the date of its ruling on Yoon's impeachment.
