The Ministry of Health of the Democratic Republic of the Congo has released data showing that the cumulative number of deaths caused by the Ebola outbreak has exceeded 500.

Xinhua News Agency reported that the Ministry of Health of the Democratic Republic of the Congo released a statement on Sunday (July 5th) saying that as of July 4th, the cumulative number of confirmed cases was 1,561, among which 506 cases resulted in deaths.

In addition, a total of 254 cases have been cured. Currently, there are still 628 confirmed patients who are in isolation or undergoing hospital treatment.

The report indicates that the number of new confirmed cases each week is still on the rise, suggesting that community transmission is continuing.

The Ministry of Health said that a clinical trial has been launched at the Ebola treatment center in the epicenter of this epidemic, Ibulu Province. The World Health Organization previously stated that this clinical trial will assess potential treatment methods, such as the effects of monoclonal antibody MBP134 and the antiviral drug remdesivir used alone or in combination.

Ugandan health ministry officials said on social media on Sunday that the Ugandan side has contained the spread of the Ebola epidemic by treating imported cases and the resulting local infections, tracking and isolating close contacts, strengthening supportive treatment, and implementing relevant prevention and control measures.

The latest data shows that during this round of the epidemic, Uganda has reported a total of 20 confirmed cases. Among them, 15 were imported cases from the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and 5 were local transmission cases. Additionally, 16 people have recovered, two are still hospitalized, and two have died.
