Indonesia is prepared to temporarily accommodate Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.
Indonesian President Subianto Prabowo said in a statement Wednesday ahead of his trip to the Middle East and Turkey that his country is prepared to temporarily resettle some Palestinians in Indonesia, Reuters reported.
Prabowo said he has instructed Foreign Minister Sugiono to quickly enter into discussions with the Palestinian side and other parties to facilitate the evacuation of Palestinians affected by the war to Indonesia.
"The people we are preparing to evacuate include the injured, the traumatized and the orphaned," he said.
Prabowo said the Palestinians will remain in Indonesia until they are fully recovered and the situation in the Gaza Strip is safe.
He said Indonesia, a Muslim-majority country, wants to play a greater role in finding a solution to the conflict between Israel and Hamas.
Indonesia has long advocated a two-state solution to end the Israel-Kazakhstan conflict.
