The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention of Thailand said that the number of COVID-19 cases in Thailand rose to 33,030 last week, with more than 6,000 cases reported in Bangkok.

The department reported that the number of cases reported from May 11th to 17th was more than twice that of the previous week (16,000 cases). Bernama quoted local media reports as saying that 1,918 cases were hospitalized, with two deaths each in Sukhothai Province and Kanchanaburi Province.

Bangkok has the highest number of cases, with 6,290 cases, followed by Chonburi Province (2,573 cases), Rayong Province (1,680 cases), Nonburi Province (1,482 cases) and Samut Sakhon Province (1,442 cases).

Most of the infected people are aged between 30 and 39.

Health authorities recommend that the public wear masks and use self-test kits (ATK) if they experience symptoms such as fever, cough, sore throat or fatigue.

The Nanyang Siang Pau quoted a report from the Bangkok Post as saying that Dr. Tira of Chulalongkorn University School of Medicine posted on his Facebook page on Monday (May 19) that the report contradicted the statement of the Ministry of Public Health of Thailand that the epidemic was not a cause for concern. He pointed out that the number of COVID-19 cases has increased sharply for 11 consecutive weeks.

Tira said, "If the situation continues, the number of reported cases will double next week." The epidemic will last for a long time because it has been at its peak for at least three months.
