Poll data shows that about 60% of South Korean people are optimistic about the governance prospects of the new president Lee Jae-myeong.
Yonhap News Agency reported that a survey released by the polling agency Realmeter on Monday (June 9th) showed that 58.2% of the respondents were optimistic about Lee Jae-myung's governance prospects, while 35.5% held the opposite opinion.
This survey was conducted among 1,012 people aged 18 and above across the country from June 4th to 5th.
In terms of the support rate of political parties, the support rate of the ruling Democratic Party of Korea was 48%, rising by more than one percentage point compared with the survey last week. The People Power Party of former President Yoon Suk Yeol has now become the largest opposition party, with a support rate of 34.8%. The gap in support rates between the two parties has widened compared to the previous week.
Lee Jae-myeong from the Democratic Party of Korea won the South Korean presidential election on June 3rd, achieving a regime change after only three years. He put forward the concept of a "pragmatic government", emphasizing that policy orientation would transcend camps and ideologies, and indicated that a supportive and encouraging government would be established rather than a controlling and interventionist one.
Lee Jae has appointed three chief secretaries for the presidential office on Sunday (the 8th), namely the chief secretaries for government affairs, public affairs and civil affairs. The main candidates for the chief secretary level of staff have been basically in place. The personnel layout of the presidential office is being accelerated, but it is expected that the appointment of cabinet candidates will still take some time.
