Lebanese President: Israeli forces' occupation of southern Lebanon hinders the deployment of the Lebanese army

Lebanese President Chamoun said that Israel's occupation of the southern part of Lebanon has hindered the deployment of the Lebanese armed forces in that area.

According to the Israel-Lebanon framework agreement brokered by the United States, Israel is required to transfer the territory it occupied during its conflict with Hezbollah to the Lebanese army.

However, Israel has consistently refused to withdraw its troops from the Lebanese security zone and claims that as long as it is necessary, the Israeli army will continue to be stationed in the southern part of Lebanon.

AFP reported that the Lebanese presidential office issued a statement on Monday (July 6) saying that President Ouen emphasized the need to put pressure on Israel and demand that it withdraw its troops. "Because of (Israel's) continuous occupation, it has undermined the legitimacy of the Lebanese state, hindered the deployment of the Lebanese army, and also prevented the establishment of a foundation for a just and lasting peace."

According to an earlier report by the Lebanese state news agency, Israeli drones attacked a car in the southern border town of Nabatieh on Monday, killing four people. Lebanese security officials said this was the deadliest drone attack in recent weeks.
