Lebanon and Israel reach agreement; Lebanese army deploys troops to the southern pilot zone

On Tuesday (July 21st), the Lebanese military announced that it had begun deploying troops to a certain area in the south. This area is one of the three "pilot zones" delineated in the agreement between Lebanon and Israel to disarm Hezbollah.

AFP reported that this news was released while Lebanese President Ouen was visiting Washington. The United States was the driving force behind this Lebanese-Israeli agreement.

In the latest round of war against Hezbollah, Israel invaded Lebanon. Although a ceasefire agreement has been reached between the two sides, the Israeli army still continues to occupy some areas of Lebanon.

The Lebanese military said in a statement: "The military forces began deploying to the Zawtar al-Gharbiya area in Nabatieh this morning."

Lebanese media footage shows that some military vehicles flying the Lebanese flag drove into this village located on the edge of the "safe zone".

The US State Department announced on Monday evening that the Lebanese army has begun to be responsible for the security affairs of the three villages of Zawtair Galiba, Froun and Srifa.

The Israeli army is currently not stationed in the last two villages. These two villages are located on the outskirts of the "safe zone", and the Israeli army had previously been deployed around Zauatar Galiba.

An American official said that this was "an opportunity for the Lebanese government to regain control of the areas that were historically under the control of Hezbollah."

Meanwhile, the Israeli military announced that it would adjust the deployment of its forces in one of the pilot areas.
