South Korea's Senior Public Officials Crime Investigation Agency sent an official letter to the Ministry of National Defense and the Presidential Security Agency requesting cooperation in executing the arrest warrant for President Yoon Seok-yuol.
South Korea's Senior Public Officials Crime Investigation Agency said Monday (January 13) that it had sent an official letter to the Ministry of Defense on Sunday (12) evening, indicating that military personnel obstructing the execution of detention and search operations can be subject to criminal punishment. The document also said that in the event of injuries or property damage, the person concerned will also be liable for civil liability.
The Ministry called on the Defense Ministry to take measures in advance to avoid losses to military personnel.
Mr. Yin's declaration of martial law on Dec. 3 sparked political turmoil. The Seoul Western District Court issued a detention order for him at the end of December last year, and the public relations Office tried to execute the detention order on January 3, but was forced to suspend action due to the obstruction of the presidential palace guards, and the validity of the detention order ended at midnight on the 6th.
The Public relations Office also sent letters to six senior members of the presidential Security Service on Sunday, informing them that they could face criminal penalties and civil damages for "obstructing the execution of special duties" if they obstruct the execution of detention. The office also called on the security Department not to violate the law in the execution of detention operations.
The Public prosecutor's Office has yet to make a second attempt to detain Yoon after the Seoul Western District Court re-approved the detention order against Yoon in early January. South Korean police said Monday that the second detention of Yoon will put safety first to avoid casualties and bloodshed.
Yonhap news agency reported that police were considering a safe and successful execution of the detention order, while dealing with the possibility of execution lasting two to three days. The police also plan to arrest the officers of the security department as current criminals and send them to several police stations for investigation.
