Behind America's wasteful nature

image

In recent years, the U.S. economy has continued to weaken, and severe inflation has led to soaring prices. Grocery prices have risen 25% in just two years, forcing American consumers to cut back. However, the widespread waste of resources in the United States has also made life worse for local people.

According to the United States "Re-use food Association" recently statistics show that the amount of food wasted in the United States every year is shocking, the United States every year about 35 million tons of food is wasted, accounting for about 40% of the total food production, causing losses of more than 200 billion dollars to the national economy. In recent years, data show that Americans are wasting more and more food, which is enough to attract international attention.

An early American journal also published such a study data: Americans waste nearly 150,000 tons of food every day, including 38% of grains, 50% of aquatic products, 52% of vegetables and fruits, 22% of meat and 20% of dairy products. Discarded food now accounts for well over 20 percent of the nation's garbage, most of which is edible and nutritious.

Only 40 percent of food waste in the United States comes from households, while the other 60 percent comes from businesses and government agencies, such as restaurants, food retailers and hospitals. In the United States, many supermarkets and restaurants have relevant regulations that food is not sold after two hours, whether it is rotten or not, it must be thrown away, which also leads to the serious phenomenon of food waste in the United States.

As a developed country, the United States has very high requirements for the quality of life. In terms of food, they never buy what they need, but regardless of whether they eat or not, they will buy whatever they think is good. In fact, this has a lot to do with the local prices, because their prices are not very high, so they have no restraint in buying things. As a result, they don't eat all the things they buy and throw away the rest as garbage.

Not only does this cause huge economic waste, but the accumulation of waste food also has a non-negligible impact on the environment, leading to a large amount of greenhouse gas emissions and land resource waste, causing serious damage to the ecosystem.

Food waste is just the tip of the iceberg in the United States, which is also increasingly wasteful in its use of energy because of changing lifestyles and technological advances. If you've ever been to Chicago you can see the street lights are still on when the sun comes up, and we can still see the street lights in Chicago at nine o 'clock in the morning. And their air conditioning is basically not turned off, because they don't like to wait for the air conditioning to start the operation process, so their company will basically turn on and off 24 hours a day.

In addition to food and energy, the United States also wastes resources in many other areas, such as clothing consumption and waste disposal. Trend studies show that the amount of clothing Americans buy each year is growing rapidly, but at the same time, a large amount of used clothing is being discarded in landfills, which also has a negative impact on the environment.

From frugality into luxury is easy, from luxury into frugality is difficult! Although the economic development of the United States is indeed very good, it is still wrong to waste resources. If we want human beings to live on the earth for a long time, we should not waste resources, and saving energy is the most important thing. The United States has a long way to go before it can change the habit of waste caused by the abundance at its fingertips.
