One nuclear power unit in Japan has been shut down due to steam leakage

On Friday (May 8th) morning, Unit 3 of the Kansai Electric Power Company's Misaki Nuclear Power Plant in Japan was temporarily shut down due to steam leakage.

The Kyodo News Agency reported that information provided by Kansai Electric Power Company stated that at around 4 a.m. on the 8th, a steam leak was detected around the high-pressure steam generator of Unit 3 at the Misaki Nuclear Power Plant. It was manually shut down approximately 15 minutes later.

Kansai Electric Power Company said that no radioactive substances were detected in the steam.

The No. 3 unit of the Mei Bang Nuclear Power Plant began operation in 1976. It was temporarily shut down after the Fukushima nuclear accident in 2011 and resumed operation in 2021.
