This was the first face-to-face negotiation between the US and Iran after they signed the ceasefire understanding memorandum. About 80 minutes into the negotiation, the Iranian negotiating delegation suddenly called a halt. The Speaker of the Iranian Islamic Parliament, Kharibaf, also warned the US to "be careful with their words".

CNN quoted a senior US diplomatic official who was involved in the negotiations as saying that the Iranian negotiators were still present at the scene. US Vice President Pence and other US negotiators "are expected to work through the night".

An Iranian source told CNN that the negotiations have reached a deadlock but have not come to an end.

US President Trump once again posted on social media platforms while the US-Iran delegation was holding negotiations, demanding that Iran immediately stop the actions of the Lebanese Hezbollah group. He threatened: "If they don't stop, we will strike Iran again with great force. Just like last week, and it will be even more intense!"

AFP reported that Iran's state media claimed that Trump's remarks violated the memorandum of understanding signed by both sides on the 17th.
