The Ministry of Health of the Democratic Republic of the Congo said that the cumulative number of confirmed cases of the current Ebola outbreak has reached 1,003, with 254 deaths.

Xinhua News Agency reported that on Sunday (June 21st), the Ministry of Health of the Democratic Republic of the Congo released the latest data on social media platform X. It showed that a total of 100 people have been cured so far, and 365 patients are in isolation or hospitalized. The contact tracing rate is 58%, which is lower than the 95% target set by the health department.

The relevant authorities are intensifying efforts in contact tracing and investigation, strengthening community publicity and mobilization, and enhancing the capacity for case treatment and testing.

The World Health Organization (WHO) released a pandemic update on the 19th, stating that this round of the epidemic occurred in the region of eastern Congo where conflicts and humanitarian crises overlap. The local population has frequent movements and there are many displaced persons, who often cannot obtain basic services such as food, clean drinking water, shelter, and medical care, resulting in a high burden of epidemic prevention.

Furthermore, recently there has been an increase in safety incidents in medical institutions, which has affected epidemic monitoring and case handling, thereby increasing the risk of hidden transmission.

The African Center for Disease Control announced on May 15th that an Ebola outbreak has occurred in Ituri Province of the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

On May 17th, the World Health Organization announced that the Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Uganda constitutes a "public health emergency of international concern". This current outbreak is caused by the Bundibugyo strain of Ebola virus and there are currently no approved vaccines or specific treatment methods.

The full name of the Democratic Republic of the Congo is the Democratic Republic of the Congo. It is located in the Congo Basin in central Africa. As its capital is Kinshasa, in Chinese, to distinguish it from the neighboring Republic of the Congo, it is usually simply referred to as "Congo (Gold)". The Republic of the Congo is abbreviated as Congo (Bouenza).
