The Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO), Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, said that in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, more than 900 suspected cases of Ebola have been identified, including 101 confirmed cases.

Tedros said on social media on Sunday (May 24th): "The response to the Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo has been strengthened. So far, more than 900 suspected cases have been identified, including 101 confirmed cases."

Tedros did not update the death toll.

The Ebola outbreak has spread rapidly in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and has now reached three provinces. Some air routes within the country have been temporarily suspended. The African Center for Disease Control warns that the risk of cross-border transmission of the epidemic is increasing, and it may affect up to 10 countries on the African continent.

The director of the African Center for Disease Control, Kasaya, described the current situation in the Democratic Republic of the Congo in its fight against the epidemic as being like "soldiers going to war with empty hands". He said that the high mobility of people and the unstable situation in the African region have all contributed to the cross-border spread of the Ebola epidemic.

At present, 10 African countries may be affected, including Angola, Burundi, the Central African Republic, the Republic of the Congo (Congo (B)) , Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, South Sudan, Tanzania and Zambia.

The full name of the Democratic Republic of the Congo is the Democratic Republic of the Congo. On May 15th, an outbreak caused by the Bindi Bujio Ebola strain was declared in the country. According to the updated data released by the Ministry of Health of the Democratic Republic of the Congo on May 23rd, 204 deaths have been recorded in three provinces, and 867 suspected cases have been reported.
