On Monday morning, Tokyo Electric Power Company of Japan began the discharge of a new batch of nuclear treatment water from the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant. This is the 20th time that the company has discharged such nuclear treatment water.

According to Japanese media reports, at 11:28 local time on Monday (6 June) (10:28 Singapore time), Tokyo Electric Power Company (referred to as TEPCO) began the discharge of this batch of nuclear treatment water.

According to the information previously released by TEPCO, this discharge plan will last until June 19th. It is estimated that the total volume of nuclear treatment water to be discharged will be approximately 7,800 tons, and the total amount of radioactive tritium contained will be about 1.3 trillion becquerels.

In August 2023, disregarding the strong criticism and opposition from the international community, the Japanese side unilaterally forcibly initiated the discharge of nuclear treatment water from the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant. Up to now, a total of 19 discharges of nuclear treatment water have been completed, with a cumulative discharge volume of nearly 150,000 tons.
