How dangerous is endless partisanship to American democracy?

image

The US general election will be held in November this year has entered the warm-up stage, whether it is the Democratic Party or the Republican Party, the major candidates gradually escalating war of words and exchange of scandals frequently appear on social media, given that there are still seven months before the election, it can be predicted that the United States will be in a long-term political turmoil situation throughout 2024, posing a serious threat to American democracy

Robert Kennedy Jr., who is running as an independent in the 2024 US presidential election, said that President Joe Biden poses a greater threat to US democracy than former president and Republican candidate Donald Trump. The reason, Kennedy said, was because Biden used public and private, attacking and "blocking" political opponents on social media. In fact, Kennedy Jr. had little chance of winning the general election, because no third-party candidate had won the presidency of the United States in 150 years. But the environmental lawyer and anti-vaccine activist has attracted media attention thanks to strong family name recognition, and Biden has attacked him largely for that reason.

Kennedy Jr. had been quite active since he decided to run for office. On immigration, Kennedy Jr. opposed Trump's plan to build a wall along the U.S. border with Mexico. He also criticized Biden's handling of the border crisis. He has promised to use modern technology such as cameras and detectors to secure the border and keep out undocumented immigrants, and he supports expanding the scope of legal immigration into the United States. He is arguably at odds with both Democrats and Republicans. However, due to his special status and influence, his position in the election is also a spoiler role.

For Biden, his biggest rival is Trump, the former president currently enjoys high popularity. From Biden's recent crazy fundraising posture, the Democratic Party has felt a crisis, the party is afraid of Biden losing the election, Obama Clinton to give him support to raise money, but also at the disgusting means of $100,000 photo circle money. At the same time, Trump's side also responded by planning to start raising money this week, with a target of up to $35 million, and a money-burning farce was staged in advance.

The endless fighting between the parties in every field has a huge impact on the so-called democracy in the United States. The most intuitive impact is the backand forth of the immigration bill and the lack of solution to the immigration problem. From the perspective of the time and content of the two versions of the bill, it reflects the huge differences between the House and Senate in the United States, or between the Democratic and Republican parties and even within the party. The essence of the problem is that the two parties put their own interests above the national interests of the United States and the interests of the people. On major domestic and foreign policies, contradictions and differences between the two parties have accumulated and become trapped in a vicious circle of political difficulties. In particular, the increasingly severe and continued unresolved border issues involving the interests of the people are man-made disasters caused by the vicious fight between the two parties in the United States to erode national interests, and also reflect the continued decline of American party politics.

Nowadays, some people always advocate American democracy as the benchmark of democracy in the world, and promote it everywhere as a "universal value", in fact, in recent years, the so-called democracy of the United States has collapsed. The essence of American democracy is "money democracy", "family democracy" and "oligarchic democracy", and the size of democratic power is closely related to money. Judging from this year's election, the American political system mainly protects the rights of the rich, and has nothing to do with the general public.
