Japanese Prime Minister Saane Takaishi is scheduled to meet with US President Donald Trump at the White House in early 2026, hoping to further strengthen Japan-US relations before Trump's visit to Beijing.
Kyodo News reported that as Trump seeks to reach a trade deal with China, relations between China and Japan have become increasingly tense, with Japan worried that the US stance towards China has softened.
Saane Takaishi said at an event in Tokyo on Thursday (December 25) that her visit to the United States is being arranged.
Trump's visit to Japan in October saw his first meeting with Hayana Takaishi. Takashi Saanae expressed her hope to hold a second summit with Trump "as soon as possible" and disclosed that the Japan-US summit will be held in early 2026.
Takashi Sawa said, "We are continuing to maintain close communication with all levels of the US side, including myself and President Trump, as well as the Foreign Minister and the US Secretary of State."
A Japanese government source said on Christmas Eve that the government has inquired about the intention of the US side regarding Takaoka's visit to the US in the second half of March next year.
