A bill aimed at further investigating the corruption case involving former President Yoon Suk Yeol and his wife was approved by the State Council on Tuesday (January 20th).

According to the Yonhap News Agency, this bill is officially titled "A Bill Regarding the Appointment of an Independent Prosecutor to Investigate the Truth of the Chaos, Treason, and Corruption-Taking Actions Perpetrated by Former President Yoon Suk Yeol and His Wife Kim Hyun Hui". It is commonly known as the "Comprehensive Independent Prosecution Law". Now, all that remains is for President Lee Jae Myung to approve and promulgate the law.

According to the "Comprehensive Independent Investigation Law", the newly established independent investigation team (the "Independent Investigation Team") will investigate various doubts that remained unclarified by the three major independent investigation teams that were dissolved last year due to the completion of their tasks, including internal unrest, treason, and malfeasance.

According to the bill, the investigation period will be up to 170 days and the team will consist of a maximum of 251 people. After the bill is signed into law, it is expected that the new round of "sole investigation" will continue until the local elections in June.
