Us media reports that tech giant Amazon is expected to lay off tens of thousands of office workers in an effort to cut costs and increase investment in artificial intelligence.
Reuters, citing people familiar with the matter, reported that Amazon is expected to cut up to 30,000 jobs starting Tuesday (October 28) in an effort to reduce costs.
Amazon has a total of approximately 1.55 million employees. This round of layoffs accounts for nearly 10% of the company's approximately 350,000 office jobs. But it was reported that delivery and warehouse staff were not affected; they are also the majority of Amazon's employees.
It is reported that this will be Amazon's largest layoff since it laid off 27,000 employees at the end of 2022.
An Amazon spokesperson declined to comment.
