Two people familiar with the matter said on Tuesday (April 29) that China has lifted the 125% tariff imposed on U.S. ethane imports earlier this month.
Reuters reported that this move will relieve the pressure on Chinese enterprises that import US ethane for petrochemical production and provide an export channel for US liquefied natural gas.
The ethane importers in China include Satellite Chemical, Xinpu Chemical, Sinopec, Sanjiang Fine Chemical and Wanhua Chemical Group, while the major exporters in the United States include Enterprise Products Partners and Energy Transfer.
According to data from the U.S. Energy Information Administration, China purchases nearly half of the ethane export products from the United States.
Earlier this month, China raised import tariffs on US goods, including ethane, to 125% in response to the reciprocal tariffs imposed by Trump on China.
Sources said that the ethane tariff has been lifted recently.
According to a report by Reuters on April 25th, Beijing has granted tariff exemptions to some products including medicines, microchips and aircraft engines, and has required enterprises to determine the key goods they need to be exempted from taxes.
