Pakistan: Conflict is Unhelpful - Iran and Iraq Should Resume Negotiations

Pakistan encourages all parties involved in the conflict to abide by the memorandum of understanding between Iran and the United States, as well as the previously issued joint statement, in order to end the conflict and resume technical-level negotiations.

Pakistani Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Tahir Andrabi said at a regular press conference on Thursday (July 16) that Pakistan is deeply concerned about the recent escalation of regional tensions. The resumption of conflict is not in the interests of any party. The Pakistani side calls on all parties to exercise maximum restraint and avoid taking any actions that may further undermine peace and stability.

Xinhua News Agency quoted him as saying that dialogue and diplomacy are the only way to achieve lasting peace, stability and progress. Although the implementation of the memorandum of understanding is facing challenges, it remains a lasting framework for promoting peace, mutual respect and common prosperity.

Andrabi pointed out that many countries, including those in the Global South, are being adversely affected by the situation in the Strait of Hormuz. The global energy supply, trade activities, and food security have all been impacted. The Pakistani side hopes that the situation in the Strait can return to normal as soon as possible.
