Investigators from South Korea's Senior Public Officials Crime Investigation Agency used a ladder Wednesday to jump over blocking vehicles and enter the presidential compound to execute an arrest warrant for suspended President Yoon Seok-yuol.
The official Xinhua News Agency reported that when the officials tried to enter Yin Xiyue's residence, they were blocked by Yin Xiyue's legal team and physically clashed with members of Yin Xiyue's legal team, lawmakers from the ruling People's Power Party and Yin Xiyue's supporters at the scene. During the confrontation, one person was injured. The identity of the injured person was not immediately known.
A police car carrying investigators also tried to enter the residence area that morning, but was blocked at the entrance to the residence area. In addition, some public investigators and police officers tried to enter the residence area from the Back mountain road.
The vehicle arrived in front of the presidential residence in Hannam-dong, Yongsan-dong, Seoul at around 4:20 a.m. local time (3:20 a.m. Singapore time). At the same time, more than 30 lawmakers from the People Power Party and Yoon Seok-yeol's legal team also arrived in front of the presidential palace and confronted investigators.
Previously, South Korea's Yonhap News Agency quoted the public Relations Office issued a notice on the 14th that the 55th guard of the Army Capital Defense Command approved the public Relations Office and other law enforcement personnel to enter the presidential residence when executing the detention order of President Yoon Seok-yue. The Presidential Security Service said the claim was untrue.
According to the Law on Presidential Security, the 55th Guard is under the supervision of the Presidential Security Service and is responsible for guarding the perimeter of the presidential residence. The office said that it sent an official document to the 55th guard on the afternoon of the same day, urging the personnel of the Public Security Office, the National Investigation headquarters of the National Police Agency, and the investigation headquarters of the Ministry of National Defense to enter the residence to execute the arrest order for Yoon Seok-yuol, and the 55th Guard responded with permission.
The Ministry of Defense also said that the 55th guard replied that "access is approved" is inconsistent with the facts. At the time, the 55th Guard said only that it did not have the authority to authorize the entry of outside personnel alone, and that final approval was required from the Presidential Guard Service.
