The opposition "Center-Right Reform Alliance" in Japan won fewer than 100 seats in the lower house election. The leader of the coalition party, Yoshihiko Noda, hinted that he might resign in an attempt to take responsibility.

Kyodo News reported that Naoto Kan said during an interview on a private TV program on Sunday (February 8th) that a high-level meeting would be held on Monday (February 9th) to express his stance regarding his own future.

He emphasized: "At that time, I will clearly express my thoughts."

After ending its 26-year coalition government with the ruling Liberal Democratic Party in October last year, the Komeito Party formed the "Center-Right Reform Alliance" with the Constitutional Democratic Party in January this year.
