The medical information system of a hospital in Japan was recently attacked by hackers. It has been confirmed that the personal information of approximately 130,000 patients, as well as about 1,700 staff members and clinical intern medical students, has been leaked.
The Kyodo News Agency reported that the Musashino Hospital of the University of Medical Sciences in Japan issued a notice on Friday (February 27th) stating that the leaked information mainly included basic details such as names, addresses, phone numbers, and dates of birth.
The attack occurred at the end of January this year. The attackers exploited VPN devices to breach the hospital's medical information system and stole the database from the nurse call server through the ward terminals. The relevant data was then posted on the website.
The attackers also demanded a ransom of approximately 15 billion yen.
