U.S. Treasury Secretary Bassant said that his two-day economic and trade talks with the Chinese delegation were productive and officials from both sides are continuing negotiations in London.

Negotiators from the United States and China launched economic and trade talks in London, UK on Monday (June 9th) local time. This is the second round of formal consultations held by the two sides since the outbreak of the Sino-US trade war.

Agence France-Presse, citing a US official, reported that as Basent was to attend a US congressional hearing, he had to leave the venue on Tuesday evening (the 10th) and return to Washington. But US Commerce Secretary Lutnick and Trade Representative Greer will continue to hold consultations with the Chinese delegation as needed.

The Chinese representatives include He Lifeng, Vice Premier of The State Council of China.

Lutnick is joining the US-China economic and trade Talks for the first time. He said in an interview with Bloomberg Television earlier on Tuesday that the US-China negotiations were progressing smoothly.

US President Trump told the media on Monday, the day the negotiations began, that all he received from London was good news, but "China is not easy to deal with".

The delegations of the two countries held the first round of talks in Geneva from May 10th to 11th. Both sides agreed to a 90-day trade truce and reduce tariffs for each other. The London negotiations are expected to focus on the issue of China's rare earth exports.
