The wife of former South Korean president Yoon Suk Yeol, Kim Hyun-hee, testified in court that Yoon Suk Yeol had never mentioned the plan to impose martial law beforehand.

The Yonhap News Agency reported that Kim Hyun-hee appeared at the Seoul Central District Court on Monday (April 13th) to attend the trial of former Minister of Justice Park Seong-jae on the charge of carrying out an important mission related to internal unrest. She also testified as a witness.

When asked whether Yoon Suk-yeol had mentioned such issues before implementing the martial law, she gave a negative answer. This was her first public statement regarding whether she had been aware of the emergency martial law in advance.

Kim Jianxi also denied having interfered in Yoon Suk-yoon's appointment of Park Seong-jae as the Minister of Justice.

However, she did not answer whether she had ever communicated with Park Seok-jae regarding cases such as her alleged stock price manipulation and bribery, or whether she had attempted to pressure the prosecution through Park Seok-jae in an effort to escape legal troubles.

Yoon Suk Yeol suddenly announced an emergency state of martial law on December 3, 2024, which caused political turmoil. Subsequently, he was impeached and removed from office, and was arrested in July 2025.

Kim Jianxi is scheduled to appear as a witness on Tuesday (14th) in the trial of Yoon Se-yoon for violating the "Political Funds Act". This will be the first time the two have met in court since Yoon was arrested, and it will be nine months since then.
