The headquarters building of South Korean IT giant Kakao in Pangyo, Bundang District, Seongnam City, Gyeonggi Province has been threatened with a bomb again, and local police are conducting an investigation.
The Yonhap News Agency reported that local police said that at around 9:51 p.m. on Sunday (December 21), someone posted a message on the Kakao customer center website saying "High-energy explosives are being set up in the company's headquarters building". Kaokao discovered the relevant post at around 10:41 a.m. on Monday (December 22) and immediately reported it to the police.
The poster claimed to be South Korean President Lee Jae-myung and threatened that the explosive would be detonated on Monday.
The police believe that since the IP address of the post shows Italy, the poster is suspected of using virtual private network (VPN) software to post. Taking all the circumstances into account, the possibility of the relevant posts being false is high. Therefore, the police did not deploy special police forces to carry out searches but instead increased the patrol and control efforts around the Kakao headquarters building.
The headquarters building of Kakao was threatened with a bomb on the 15th of this month. Similar incidents occurred successively on the 17th and 18th, and the targets also expanded to include South Korea's largest portal website NAVER, KT, and Samsung Electronics, among others. This series of incidents is currently under investigation by the Bundang Police Station in Gyeonggi Province.
