Biden warned in his speech on August 30th that Hurricane Idaria was "still very dangerous", despite the storm weakening after landing in Florida, and stated that he had not forgotten the victims of wildfires in Hawaii. Faced with the challenge of back-to-back extreme weather events, wildfires have burned down a historic town on Maui Island, along with a hurricane that forecasters say could bring catastrophic floods. The Democratic president running for a second term has stated that he has spoken with the governors of Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, and North Carolina, all of which have been influenced by Idalia.
